Titanic expedition captures new images of the wreck...

London: An expedition probing the Titanic wreck has revealed sharp new images of the world's most tragic shipwreck. A research team has been relying on a robot pair to click thousands of photographs and hours of video of the wreck, roughly four km below the sea surface.

(In this Aug. 28, 2010 image released by Premier Exhibitions, Inc.-Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution, the Titanic bow is shown. An expedition surveying the wreck of the Titanic is showing off some crisp images of the world's most famous shipwreck, but officials said on Sunday they are headed back to shore.)

The high-resolution images include views of the ship's bow, clearly depicting the railing and anchors, reports the Daily Mail. The expedition left Newfoundland in Canada earlier this month for the spot in the Atlantic where Titanic sank after colliding with an iceberg in 1912. More than 1,500 passengers and crew perished. It was super luxury liner's maiden voyage.

Scientists are relying on imaging technology and sonar devices that are being used for the first time on the Titanic wreck. They are probing nearly a century of sediment in the debris field to seek a full inventory of the ship's artefacts.

The expedition is a partnership between RMS Titanic Inc, which has exclusive salvage rights to the wreck, and the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution in Massachusetts, US. Officials from Expedition Titanic said they are now headed back to Newfoundland because of the rough weather conditions brought on by hurricane Danielle.

The expedition is scheduled to probe a three-by-five-km debris field where hundreds of thousands of artefacts remain scattered. Expedition officials say they intend to return to finish their work after a delay of a few days.

"Titanic" director James Cameron has also led teams to the wreck to record the bow and the stern, which separated during the sinking and now lie one-third of a mile apart. RMS Titanic made the last expedition to site in 2004.

Really Nice Poems !!!

Jo lehron se aage nazar dekh paati toh tum jaan
lete main kya sochta hoon,
Wo aawaz tumko bhi jo bhed jaati toh tum jaan
lete main kya sochta hoon.
Zid ka tumhare jo parda sarakta toh khidkiyon se
aage bhi tum dekh paate,
jaan lete main kya sochta hoon.

Meri tarah khud par hota zara bharosa toh kuchh
hasraten tumhari naya janm paatin,
Khud doosre janam mein meri udaan chhoone
kuchh door tum bhi saath-saath aate.

Chhoti-chhoti chhitrayi yaadein
Bichhi hui hain lamhon ki lawn par.
Nange pair unpar chalte-chalte
Itni door chale aaye
Ki ab bhool gaye hain –
Joote kahan utaare the.

Aedi komal thi, jab aaye the.
Thodi si naazuk hai abhi bhi.
Aur nazuk hi rahegi
In khatti-meethi yaadon ki shararat
Jab tak inhe gudgudati rahe.

Sach, bhool gaye hain
Ki joote kahan utaare the.
Par lagta hai,
Ab unki zaroorat nahin.

After 2½ years and ’50,000 mosquito bites,’ Briton conquers Amazon

Marapanim (Brazil): After 859 days, thousands of kilometres, and "50,000 mosquito bites," Ed Stafford became the first man known to have walked the entire length of the Amazon river when the waves of the Atlantic Ocean lapped at his feet in northern Brazil on Monday.

(In this Nov. 2008 photo released by Press Contact on Aug. 9, 2010, Ed Stafford, of England, walks through water in an unknown location in Peru during his journey along the Amazon river. After 859 days and thousands of miles Ed Stafford became the first man known to have walked the entire length of the Amazon river. AP)

"It's unbelievable to be here!" Stafford told The Associated Press the moment he entered the sea. "It proves you can do anything -- even if people say you cannot. I've proved that if you want something enough, you can do anything!"

A few hours earlier, Stafford had collapsed at the side of the road, just short of his destination. But upon arrival at the Crispim beach -- and his journey's end -- Stafford looked like he had all the energy in the world, as if walking for 2½ years were nothing as he jumped into the ocean and hugged anyone in sight.

(Ed Stafford walks through Peru during his journey along the Amazon river. While he says he is "no eco-warrior," Stafford told the AP near the end of his journey that he hoped his feat would raise awareness of destruction to the Amazon rain forest — but that at its heart, it was simply a grand expedition of endurance. While he says he is "no eco-warrior," Stafford told the AP near the end of his journey that he hoped his feat would raise awareness of destruction to the Amazon rain forest -- but that at its heart, it was simply a grand expedition of endurance.

"The crux of it is, if this wasn't a selfish, boy's-own adventure, I don't think it would have worked," the 34-year-old former British army captain told the AP as he sat under the Brazilian sun near the jungle city of Belem. "I am simply doing it because no one has done it before."

(Ed Stafford, of England, right, accompanied by Gadiel "Cho" Sanchez Rivera, of Peru, runs along Crispim beach in Marapanim in Brazil's Para state. AP)

There are at least six known expeditions along the course of the Amazon river, from its source high in the Peruvian Andes across Colombia and into Brazil before its waters are dumped into the ocean 6,760 kilometres away. But those used boats to advance their travel.

Stafford and a British friend began the walk on April 2, 2008, on the southern coast of Peru. Within three months, his pal left. Stafford carried on, walking bits of the route with hundreds of locals he met along the way. Eventually, Peruvian forestry worker Gadiel "Cho" Sanchez Rivera, 31, decided to make the journey with Stafford to the Atlantic.

(Upon arrival at the Crispim beach — and his journey's end — Stafford looked like he had all the energy in the world, as if walking for 2½ years were nothing as he jumped into the ocean and hugged anyone in sight. AP)

Stafford said his journey -- which has cost $100,000 and is paid for by sponsoring companies and donations -- has deepened his understanding of the Amazon, its role in protecting the globe against climate change, and the complex forces that are leading to its destruction.

He said he has seen vast swaths of demolished jungle. "It's the people in power who are benefiting from the extraction of the natural resources here," Stafford said. "That's why there are corrupt politicians and laws that aren't enforced and loads of unconstrained deforestation still going on."

Kishore: The Dil, the Deen, the Deewangi...

A tribute to Kishore Kumar on his 81st birth anniversary.

He never attended parties. He loved watching horror flicks. He played with his toy spooks. He made friends with the trees in his garden; he talked to them. And when he felt like it, he sang.

Kishore Kumar Ganguly treated life as a foolish game, wherein rules were made to be broken. "In this avaricious world, every creative person is bound to be lonely. How can you deny me that right?" he asked. Yet, he married four times!!!!

He could not read the notations. Nor could he name more than three classical singers without prompting. Yet, he sang as if he was possessed!

He complained of his filmmakers "who know nothing". But when Satyajit Ray offered him a role in the famous comedy, 'Parash Pathar', he literally ran away."I was so scared," he said. He loved to live life, Kishore-size! As with all other great men, it was contradictions that made Kishore Kumar.

When he arrived in Bombay in the 1940s, Abhas Kumar Ganguly (the real name) had four idols: K.L. Saigal, Marlon Brando, Boris Karloff and Topol (the star of 'Fiddler on the Roof'). And he had a superstar for a sibling: Ashok Kumar! His greatest wish was to meet the legendary Kundan Lal Saigal. He also wanted to be a singer. "The younger brother of Ashok Kumar" was, however, coerced into acting. And soon, he found himself doing cameos on screen. He hated acting but was too scared to communicate this to his brother. Singing was confined to the toilet. Kishore hit the silver screen with a new brand of comedy that bordered on insanity. He tried his best to shrug off the actor's robes. He troubled his directors to the ends of the world -- He filled his eyes with romance while on an action routine. He looked into the eyes of his heroine like a monster on the prowl. The more he tried to escape, the more he was loved. And he became the second biggest draw after Dilip Kumar!

Paradox: He was so busy that Mohammed Rafi was assigned to sing for him in 'Sharaarat'.

The comic roles he played in films such as 'Half Ticket', 'Chalti ka Naam Gaadi', 'Padosan' and 'Jhumroo' made him popular, but he remained a prisoner of slapstick. This forced him into film-making. In films such as 'Door Gagan ki Chaon Mein' (1964) and 'Door ka Rahi' (1971), Kishore did what he always wanted to do - "sing sad songs and do serious roles".

After a long wait of almost three decades, Kishore struck gold as a singer.

Rejected by almost all major music directors in the dawn of his career, Kishore found his mentor in S. D. Burman and a lifelong friend in R. D. Burman. He had no guru who could teach him the nuances of music. But when he sang, his voice transformed the song into an emotional entity.

Arguably, Kishore was the only Indian playback singer, who acted out his songs. His renditions were earthy, if not ethereal. Constantly bullied by the music critics of his age, Kishore was looked down as a symbol of irreverence that marked the Hindi movies of the Seventies. But he outlived the critics, and went on yodelling into the hearts of thousands of admirers the world over. The Kishore, who we remember today, is only a fragment of the phenomenon he actually was. Nobody could say they knew the real Kishore Kumar. Not even the protagonist himself. He kept the world guessing. He acted, he sang, he wrote, he made music, he directed films...

Kishore Kumar constantly complained about the world he found himself in. "In this crazy world, only the truly sane man appears to be mad," he said, a few days before his death. He used to keep a skull in the bedroom, with red light emerging from its eyes, just to keep himself posted on "the futility of life". He braved the emotional disasters in his life with the mind of a clown. The sadness, he invested in his songs.

The world called Kishore Kumar "crazy". He sang innumerable songs that carried his answer to the world: "Rote hue aate hain sab, hansta hua jo jaayega, woh muqaddar ka sikander kehlayega...!"

Kishore Kumar. Rock star. Maverick. Genius.
